The 2026 Election

“Pride in our parish, hope for our island”

It has been a huge honour (and a pleasure!) to represent St Brelade in the States Assembly these last four years, and with the election fast approaching I think now is the time to announce that I will be standing again for the role of parish deputy in June.

I’ll be saying a lot more about my ideas and plans for a second term once nominations close at the end of April, and this website will be updated accordingly. For now, I’ll just say that my priorities if elected will include:

  • Improving the public realm & community facilities in St Brelade
  • Investing in the island’s future
  • Tackling the cost of living
  • Protecting and enhancing our environment
  • Supporting stability in government finances

My intention will be to build on the collaborative style of my first term by working positively with whoever is elected to build pride in our parish and deliver hope for our island.

Having had experience both as a Minister (for the Environment) and as a very active backbencher, I hope it’s clear that I have worked hard to deliver meaningful change with a sensible, balanced agenda for change. I’d particularly pick out a few achievements.

As Minister for the Environment:

  • Passing the Licensing of Rented Dwellings legislation (commonly known as landlord licensing), driving up standards in the rental market
  • Proposing a massive expansion in marine protected areas
  • Instigating sweeping changes in the Planning Department to improve customer service
  • Bringing forward proposals for a commercial wind farm in Jersey’s waters
  • Passing a long delayed new Food Law, including updated allergy labelling requirements

As a Backbencher:

  • Pushing for improvements at Les Creux and various road improvements in St Brelade
  • Supporting the parish Youth Club as an active committee member
  • Holding ministers to account over the new hospital & the state of health and care services
  • Supporting the Residential Tenancy Law (but removing the 5% cap on rent rises)

One final thought: I’ve learnt a lot in my first term and I’d like to think my experience means I can be an even more effective member of the Assembly if elected for a second term. I remain a passionate advocate for our environment and committed to making Jersey an island that truly works for everyone.
