A reminder and update of my rules of engagement on social media, particularly X and Facebook.
I am happy to engage in debate, when I can find the time. I enjoy the exchange of ideas and it is a good way to stay in touch with different groups and a wide range of opinion. I cannot answer every question that is put to me, or respond to every point made, but I read most stuff in which I am tagged. However, I will not engage with contributors who make nasty, aggressive or unpleasant comments. Similarly, asking a “polite” question when it has been preceded by a stream of unpleasant comments will be ignored. I haven’t blocked anyone up until now, but persistently nasty comments – particularly coming from anonymous accounts – are likely to lead to the account being blocked. Life is too short.
I came into politics to make a positive contribution to the parish and the island that I love. I am not venal, I am not lazy and I am not entirely stupid. I do my best. Comments that are made in that spirit are far more likely to get a response.
